ChemBioOffice Workgroup

Recently a site license was negoitated for a powerful suite of programs included in ChemBioOffice 2010 Workgroup. These include the following:

ChemBioDraw: The industry standard chemical drawing program now also includes ability to create biological illustrations.

Inventory: Ability to create an inventory for chemical and reagent tracking. This is based on SQL database that can be accessed by anyone with the client software. It has the potential to eliminate multiple purchases of chemicals and is searchable for easy retrieval of materials that have been logged. It is also good for tracking expired chemicals that require disposal.

E-Notebook: a chemical and biology electronic notebook designed to replace paper notebooks. This has been implemented by several large Pharma companies including Merck. It is a SQL based system and while not difficult to set up, requires some inside knowledge. The most recent version allows electronic signatures which is a useful feature if you plan to patent any of your research. It allows import of MS Office documents and graphics files for ease of use.

There are also programs for organizing data (biological, physicochemical etc) around chemical structures (Bioassay and ChemFinder).
