The South Carolina College of Pharmacy (SCCP) had two winners at this year’s annual Discovery Day at the University of South Carolina (USC). Out of the 12 SCCP mentored posters presented, including nine Magellan scholars, two pharmacy students - P3 Alyson Leonard and P4 James Fulton – were selected as first-place winners in the morning and afternoon poster sessions, respectively. Each received a $200 award for their first place win.
Leonard's winning poster was “Screening for viral hepatitis prior to rituximab chemotherapy” and Fulton's was “Clinical characteristics and risk factors associated with mortality of patients hospitalized with spontaneous bacterial peritonitis”
Bryan Love, assistant professor of clinical pharmacy and outcomes sciences (CPOS), was a mentor on both projects. CPOS faculty members LeAnn Norris and Scott Sutton were also mentors on each of the projects, respectively.
The day-long Discovery Day event, in which USC undergraduate students present the results of their research, took place at the Russell House at the USC Columbia campus. See the following for a full list of award winners: http://www.sc.edu/our/doc/2015_discovery_day_award_winners.pdf
