About Dr. Gabor Szalai

As a researcher, I have developed significant expertise in mammalian models of human diseases using methods of molecular biology. Being originally educated as a chemical engineer, however, gave me an advantage of being able to fully understand the molecular basis of cell biology, immunology and genetics. Working on various projects in several countries, I have made significant advances in the field, which is reflected in my body of work. My versatility and broad view of sciences is well reflected in the wide range of journals I have published in (i.e. Am. J. Pathol [2010] and Annals of Biomed Eng [2011]). 

I am not only a researcher, but a project manager who has led teams of over 10 personnel, managing work, people and budgets. I have furthered my expertise in leadership by advancing my education through management and leadership courses at a respected school of business. I also have a passion for teaching and a strong commitment to undergraduate education not only in the classroom but also in the lab.

Research Assistant Professor and Associate Director of the Peromyscus Stock Center.  Oversee the operation of the Stock Center which houses 4,500 deer mice.  Secure research funding (NSF, NIH), interact with 89 laboratories using deer mice.  Lead research projects in cryopreservation, genetic mapping and epilepsy.

Postdoctoral Researcher. Research included control of megakaryopoesis, senescence and carcinogenesis by Ets transcription factors using in vitro studies in concert with in vivo knockout and transgenic technologies.
